Area Description (back to top)
Capitola, with its inviting beach side esplanade, is a popular destination for tourists to Santa Cruz County. It is also a popular for residents of the county, as it features the Capitola Mall and 41st Avenue. 41st Avenue is a major commercial avenue in northern Santa Cruz county, with many excellent restaurants, shops, and services available.
The city is also home to the Begonia Festival, held every labor day weekend. This is a very popular event, drawing many visitors to Capitola. It features a Sand Sculpture contest, a volleyball tournament, twilight concerts, rowboat races, and the annual Nautical Parade, when begonia covered barges float down Soquel Creek to the lagoon.
In fact, Capitola is home to many festivals, celebrations, and special events. There is the famous Capitola Art and Wine Festival, various surfing competitions, Halloween Parades, and of course, Surfin' Santa.
The most sought-after areas of Capitola are those closest to the Capitola Village and the beach esplanade. Capitola is a small town, and consequently any property is within walking distance of the beach and the village, but those properties in or nearest the village tend to get the most interest from buyers. Above the Village is Depot Hill, a neighborhood of nice homes, the most prized of which are along the bluff overlooking Monterey Bay and the Village.
Park Avenue runs from Depot Hill to New Brighton State Beach. This street provides sweeping views of Monterey Bay. The condominums which are on or near Park Avenue are much in demand, as are homes in the neighborhood behind the condos.

Area Attractions (back to top)
Capitola Beach Esplanade: this is the big draw, a stretch of bars and restaurants along Capitola Beach. Most weekends of the year - in fact, most days of the week! - this is a pretty lively place.
Capitola Village: the Beach Esplanade is the western boundary of the Village. As you walk away from the beach, you'll walk through the village, stuffed with retail boutiques.
Fast Eddy's: One of the few pool halls in Santa Cruz county! They've got full-sized tables, and snooker too! Beer on tap. Located on Capitola Road.
Restaurants (back to top)
These are some of the restaurants I like in the Capitola area. I haven't been to every place in town, but these are the places I like to eat in the area.
Margaritaville: located on the Capitola Village esplanade, this is a long-time favorite place for margaritas, chips + salsa!
Paradise Grill: also located on the Capitola Village esplanade, it's a great place for fine cuisine.
Il Pirata: If you are on the Capitola Village esplanade and you're in the mood for some italian, this place has what you are looking for!
Zelda's: Everyone wants to go to Zelda's for lunch - great outdoor seating on the Capitola Village esplanade
Shadowbrook: When it comes to romantic places for dinner in our area, Shadowbrook has no rival.
Fresh Choice: Located in the Brown Ranch Shopping Center (on Clares Street, adjacent to the Capitola Mall). If you want a huge, all-you-can-eat Salad Bar, this is the place!
Dharma's: If you're looking for 100% organic food in Capitola, the place to go is Dharma's on Capitola Road, next to Fast Eddy's billiards.
Tiny's: if you've got the late-night munchies, the only place to go in Capitola is Tiny's, at the corner of 41st Avenue and Capitola Road. Open 24 hours.
Gayle's: Gayle's Bakery is an institution in Santa Cruz County. Fantastic baked goods, and a great deli counter.
Nightlife (back to top)
Margaritaville: it's often standing room only at Margaritaville on the weekends! Come down and get ready to party!
The Fog Bank: A great club, especially for comedy.

As menioned earlier, 41st Avenue is one of the major commercial areas in Santa Cruz County. It's easy to get to, just take Highway 1 and head West when you get off at 41st Avenue. There you will find an Auto Row, gas stations, restaurants, the Capitola Mall, fast food, you name it!
